Thesis: 90 Degree 1H Pulse Calibration Methods in NMR

Mar 2016 - Dec 2016

In this thesis report, a novel method for determining the 90d pulse width for calibration in Nuclear Magnetic Resonance spectroscopy experiments is conceptualised and proposed. This method will aim to estimate the frequency of a real sinusoid with additive white Gaussian noise and spin physics alterations using a modified periodogram peak search algorithm given by Aboutanios. Research into current calibration methods and the potentiality of the proposed solution are presented to indicate the possible improvements in the accuracy and efficiency of the 90d pulse width determination.

Automated Thermal Detection of Remote Events using a Low Power System

Feb 2017 - Nov 2017

In the field of thermal imaging and event detection, there isn't much consideration put into use cases with limited power and resources, whilst also maintaining low cost. This study will present a new method of optimising power consumption and performance of a remote thermal camera which monitors a scene in an automated fashion and communicates with a centralised server end-user. This will be achieved through designing a robust event detection algorithm for thermal monitoring and dividing the computational load of a background modelling algorithm whilst optimising the amount of data transmission and the costs associated.
